Orange has now officially confirmed what we’ve previously reported – it will offer the iPhone in the UK from 10 November. The iPhone 3G and 3GS will be available in Orange stores on Tuesday 10 November from 7am in certain stores with some shops staying open late. The iPhone will be available on Orange in all Orange stores, online, at Orange HMV concessions, as well as through Apple Retail Stores, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U.

Revealing that a quarter of a million have pre-registered interest for the Apple phone, Orange says it will offer the iPhone on a pay as you go basis, to pay-monthly customers and to business customers too. As far as pay as you go goes, customers who top-up £50 at purchase will get an iPhone 3G for £333 while the iPhone 3GS 32GB will be £539. This compare’s to O2′s pricing of £538.30. The pay as you go deals offer just 250MB of data each month, plus a year’s BT Openzone access.

On a pay monthly basis the iPhone 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models will be available on various monthly plans, with the 3GS 16GB free on all £45 plans and the 3G model free from £30 plans – both with a 24-month contract.

The cheapest monthly contract, a £29.36 per month, 2-year contract will see the iPhone 3GS 32GB charged at £225 with the handset only available free for those paying out for a £73.40 a month contract. In terms of data, Orange has a “fair usage” allowance of 750MB per month.

O2′s free handset structure for the 3GS 32GB is similar, although it charges £274.23 for the phone on lower-cost 18-month tariffs and £175.19 for the device on its 24-month £34.26 plan.

iPhone owners who want to use their iPhone to get mobile broadband on their laptop can take out additional tethering bundles starting at £5 per month.

Oh, boy. It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? Automobile security system company Viper has just introduced its SmartStart line consisting of an in-car hardware module with a cellular connection that allows you to lock, unlock, and remotely start your car from just about anywhere in the world.

You can also show off by popping the trunk and hitting the panic button, too. The module can be added to existing compatible Viper systems for $300 or there’s an all-in-one system for $500 – both are currently available at Best Buy.

Since the starter module has some sort of cellular connection built-in, Viper will be charging $30 per year for remote iPhone starting features. The first year is free, though, and the system is also compatible with the iPod touch over Wi-Fi.

If all this stuff sounds vaguely familiar, you may recall a similar prototype Android version called “KEI” (see coverage here) that an MIT student developed back in May of 2008.

Bored with the PS3 Slim’s matte finish? Add some color to your PS3 Slim…

Colorware, established in 2000, has been altering the color of PC’s ever since. Their talent and quality eventually spilled over into other products such as cell phones, MP3 players and gaming consoles. While it’s long been known you could send in your PS3 to colorware to get a snazzy new paint job, it’s the first time you can get your new PS3 Slim customized with a new coat of paint.

Many PS3 Slim owners may opt to get their consoles painted, considering the new matte finish of the PS3 has been said to be less flattering than the original PS3’s piano black glossy finish. If you are interested in giving your PS3 Slim a personal touch of color, you can do so at ColorwarePC.com for prices starting at $149 to send in your existing PS3 Slim. Alternatively, you can pick up a brand new PS3 Slim from them starting at $449.

It’s only natural that people who enjoy playing online poker want to know if they can do so from their mobile phone. If that phone is an iPhone, it seems certain that you can. After all, iPhone has an app for everything else, right? Why not poker? In fact, iPhone does have several poker apps, and they are all very different, so it’s important to know about the different kinds of iPhone poker apps available. Learn the different varieties to decide which app is right for you to download.

iPhone Poker

Your basic iPhone poker is simple to download and fun to play. There’s only one problem. It’s not actually poker. Well, it is, but it’s the video poker variety. You’ll have credits that you can bet with and you can win additional credits according to how many you play per hand. The game follows a typical 9/6 full pay structure, but you won’t be playing for real money, so getting accurate payouts isn’t really much of a concern. In video poker, you play to make your best hand, not against other players, so bluffing and folding are not elements of the game.

Apple Texas Hold’em

The basic iPhone poker application is Apple Texas hold’em, created by apple itself. It’s a simple program that allows you to play against computer opponents or eight friends through Wi-Fi. You can tap buttons on the screen to indicate actions or use your finger to drag chips into the pot.

Zynga Live Poker

Probably the most exciting iPhone poker application is Zynga live poker. If you truly love online texas holdem, this may be the app for you. Zynga live poker has the advantage that it plays just like actual online poker. You don’t need to invite friends to play or play the computer; you can actually go wireless and join a game with anyone else who has the Zynga application, just like with an online poker site. Zynga is also social network-enabled, so you can find opponents through Facebook, MySpace and other sites. You can get Zynga live poker and Apple Texas hold’em through the iTunes app store.

After our report yesterday that in-car GPS system TomTom had released an iPhone app in New Zealand, it appears the app is now available for purchase elsewhere, including the US and UK. Mapping data is available for New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, US & Canada and Western Europe.

Obviously you’ll need an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to make it work. What’s more, it’s not cheap: in the region of $100. However, in most cases that’s much cheaper than a standalone GPS unit. UK site Recombu downloaded the app and took it for a test drive (video below). While it comes highly recommended, the app does of course pause when you receive an inbound phone call.
