Fun Fact: if you were to run a Google Image Search for “bada” at the time I published this post, you wouldn’t find a single image relevant to Samsung’s up and coming bada operating system until the third page, otherwise known as “that page that no one goes to because they gave up hope of finding the image they wanted after page 2.” Maybe that’ll change once Samsung shows off a smartphone running the operating system – which, if this statement from ol’ Sammie themselves is any indication, might be as soon as two weeks from now. In a post on the bada blog from earlier today, Samsung (very briefly) sheds some light on some of the User Experience features of the OS. What we care about, however, is the like that wraps it all up: The distinctive UX features of bada let the developers to deliver the user convenience which could be experienced in applications showcased with the new bada smartphone at MWC this month. Unless we’re dealing with a bit of mistranslation here (which, of course, is entirely possible) it sounds like Samsung just disclosed that they’ll be showing the world’s first bada-powered phone at Mobile World Congress — which, for the uninitiated, goes down in just 2 weeks time. We’ll be in Barcelona bringing back all the news from Mobile World Congress as it happens – so if bada makes an appearance, expect to see it here. Firefox Mobile crawled into its first pockets last night, going live on Maemo5. The mobile version retains the full awesomeness of the Awesome Bar and includes WeaveSync for keeping tabs, passwords, and bookmarks straight across desktop and mobile versions.

The Nokia N900 sports a lot of impressive unofficial achievements on its resume, like dual-booting (sort of) and playing Starcraft and Duke Nukem 3D. Now it gets the benefit of Firefox’s first o-fficial mobile version.

As mentioned above it comes with the Awesome Bar and synchronization capabilities as well as tabs, location-aware browsing and some add-ons. Flash support is experimental but can be turned on in the settings.

Firefox Mobile 1.0 is currently available for download. You can find out more at Mozilla’s Firefox Mobile page. [Mozilla via ZDNet]

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition impressions

Last October, we would’ve never guessed that T-Mobile would bother to circle back with HTC on the myTouch 3G to craft a slightly modified version that fixes everyone’s single biggest complaint — the lack of an integrated 3.5mm headphone jack — but here we are now in January with that very product resting in our hands. Even crazier, though, is that the only version of the modified phone (or, at least, the only version announced so far) is a limited edition tie-up with Fender and pitchman Eric Clapton. Strange bedfellows, indeed — maybe just strange enough to work. Seriously, who doesn’t want a phone endorsed by one of the hippest, most storied brands of the 20th century?

Virgin Mobile Canada launching HSPA network on February 2?

Saying that CDMA-based Virgin Mobile Canada is “launching” a network is a bit of a stretch, actually, since it just rides atop Bell’s airwaves — but for what it’s worth, it looks like we now have a date for an official HSPA launch. Bell, of course, has been wasting no time aggressively building out and marketing its HSPA network the past few months, and to get Virgin switched over, they’ll likely be getting a variety of BlackBerrys and iPhones — a far cry from the low-end fare its American cousin offers. Anyhow, the wholly-owned MVNO has scheduled a shindig for the evening of February 2 to launch its “huge new HSPA+ network and some of the world’s sexiest phones” — and hey, even if you don’t like the new hardware, any party with Jay Sean sounds like a win to us. For what it’s worth, Virgin’s site is now listing both the iPhone 3GS and Bold 9700 as coming soon, so yeah, it’s definitely about to get real up in here.

DoubleTwist partnering with T-Mobile for Android music management

As the late, great Rodney Dangerfield would attest, DoubleTwist has been jonesing for some respect for quite some time. For those unaware, said software essentially acts as an iTunes for everything else, giving users of all those non-Apple devices a somewhat familiar interface and portal to sync media, playlists, etc (video demonstration is after the break). Up until now, Android users have been forced to figure out content management on their own, and while geeks have obviously had no issue, those expecting iTunes to take the wheel have found themselves in an uncomfortable position. Reportedly, T-Mobile USA has decided to partner with the company and pre-load the software onto a number of new Android devices — not just the Fender myTouch 3G. The only real pitfall here is that Amazon’s MP3 Store integration is missing, but we should learn more as T-Mob goes official with the details later today. Is this the big break DoubleTwist has been waiting for? Time shall tell.

We needed to independently connect and verify a few dots before sounding the alarm here, but sure enough, it looks like Cell Phone Signal has unearthed the best smoking gun yet suggesting Motorola’s MOTOROI — the phone formerly known as the Sholes Tablet — is destined for T-Mobile USA. The evidence comes in the form of an FCC filing, a Motorola device with ID IHDP56KC6, that’s certified for quadband EDGE plus T-Mobile-friendly 1700 / 2100MHz HSPA humming at a peak of 10.2Mbps down and 5.6Mbps up (not too shabby) with Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, and magnetic compass. By and large, Moto managed to paint over revealing portions of spectrum analyzer screen shots that contained the product’s codename, but there are a couple they forgot to touch — and sure enough, the part they didn’t want you to see reads in part “SHOLES.”

So why are we so sure this is the keyboardless MOTOROI as opposed to an AWS-compliant form of the Droid / Milestone, which shared the Sholes name internally? The answer lies in the SAR report, which didn’t test the phone’s radiated power in both “slider up” and “slider down” configurations like we saw in the Droid’s documentation — there’s just one set of figures here. That, of course, means no slider, which in turn means no QWERTY, which ultimately means MOTOROI. Now if you’ll excuse us, we need to close fourteen sets of FCC filings, restart our computer, and grab a quick drink — but in the meantime, T-Mobile folks, take comfort in knowing that your Moto rollercoaster doesn’t start and end with the CLIQ. Don’t suppose this would be a March release, would it?

Motorola MOTOROI almost certainly bound for T-Mobile (thanks, FCC!) originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 24 Jan 2010 11:01:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
