Geeks Gadget: Digital Reader brings comics to the PSP this December

After trotting out a mess of new information about PlayStation Home earlier today in Germany, SCEE prez Andrew House announced Sony’s upcoming digital comics initiative on the PSP, the Digital Reader. According to House, Sony has worked out plans with Marvel to launch with “hundreds available, including the Marvel Comics stable.”

Additionally, the service will give PSP-owning comic fans access to Archie and Image comics. Unfortunately, he didn’t specify if the service will be a free firmware upgrade to the existing PSP software or pricing for the comics themselves.

But alas, GamesCom has just started! We’ll poke around and see if we can get some more information as soon as the Sony press conference ends.

Amazon has warned U.S. buyers that there will be supply shortages of the Slim PS3 when it launches September 1st. In response, the e-tailer says they will be limiting sales to one console per household. “As you may know, the PlayStation 3 120 GB is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the US,” says Amazon.

“In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase PlayStation 3 120 GB, we are limiting the total number of PlayStation 3 120 GB units that can be purchased.

As a result, each household may only purchase one PlayStation 3 120 GB unit. “Amazon UK made a similar statement yesterday, however they are allowing up to 5 consoles per household.

Geeks Gadget: PS3 Home Beta

Remember when Sony said that those who purchased Episode 6 of Qore would get entrance into the Home beta? Well, that’s not exactly the case, by which we mean not the case at all.

According to several disgruntled tipsters, the beta invites will apparently only be sent to year-long subscribers who signed up before Oct.

That … well, we don’t have any witty analysis here — it’s just wack. If our new user-friendly interface was about to be beaten to the punch by the other guy’s new user-friendly interface, we’d probably let anybody in who wanted in. But that’s just us.
