After the sweet success of ASUS EEE S101, ASUS rolled out a hard disk version of it, the EEE S101H. It is built along the lines of S101. It is just 2.5cm thin; weighs just 1.1kg and its metallic finish makes it perfect for making a style statement. But, do not go swayed away by its looks, it is pretty powerful too. Read the full review to find more about it!

The Turbo Drive technology found in MSI’s GX733 laptops has filtered its way down to two more models, the GX623 and GX633. These are smaller midrange laptops with 15.4-inch screens with either Intel (GX623) or AMD (GX633) dual core processors inside. Additional specs after the jump.

The GX623 Intel models come with an ATI Radeon HD4670 graphics processor, while the GX633 AMD models come with NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M graphics. That’s where the differences end.

Both GX laptops feature MSI’s ECO Engine — with the vaunted turbo button — that make it easy to switch between balls-to-the-wall gaming power to a more efficient energy-saving mode. The rest of the specs are as follows, coincidentally identical to the larger 17?GX733 except for screen size.

* Up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM
* 15.4? TFT LCD display
* Up to 500GB SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
* DVD Super Multi drive with Blu-ray
* Card reader, web cam
* Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth, WiFi-N
* 3 USB ports
* 1 HDMI port
* 1 PCI Express slot
* 6 or 9-cell battery

1004DN is the first Eee to offer an integrated CD/DVD burner

The computer industry is hurting for sure, but one of the few bright spots in the poor economy has been and continues to be netbooks. The netbook category continues to grow as consumers look to the low cost machines for portability and the price.

One of the biggest problems for many that use a netbook is that they lack an optical drive. This is a problem for those who want to use a netbook as their primary computer. ASUS has a plethora of Eee models that cover a wide range of offerings, colors, and uses.

ASUS says that its new 1004DN is the first netbook in the Eee range to offer an integrated Super-Multi optical drive allowing users to read and write to CDs and DVDs on the go. The machine also features an Express Card slot for expansion. The new Chicklet-style ASUS keyboard is used on the machine that puts the right shift key in the correct position and the machine uses the Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) to extend battery life.

The keyboard is 92% of full size compared to a desktop and has a larger shift key. The track pad uses multi-touch technology and the machine has a 1.3-megapixel webcam with digital array microphone. The 1004DN also has an integrated fingerprint reader for security and has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The machine has a 10-inch LED-backlit TFT WSVGA screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution. Overall dimensions for the machine are 277mm x 194mm x 27.4-34mm and the weight with the 6-cell battery is 1.45kg. ASUS uses the Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz CPU in the machine with the Intel GN40 chipset and 1GB of RAM. RAM can be expanded to 2GB and storage is to a 1.8-inch PATA 120GB 4,200 RPM hard drive.

ASUS is mum on pricing and availability at this time.

Today we saw the introduction of two new netbooks to the Samsung line. Samsung entered the netbook market in October of 2008 with the respectable NC10 [Portal page] which had a solid economy design, and impressed people with its battery life. Now Samsung updates the NC10 to the the N110, and introduces the NC310. Laptopmag.com already got their hands on the N110 and gives us a nice review (linked below).

You won’t be surprised at the insides of the N110; not only are they similar to almost every other netbook out there, but they are actually identical to the NC10:

* 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU
* 1GB of RAM
* 160GB HDD

The N110 is also still has the same 1024×600, 10.2” screen. However they did make some improvements. The exterior of the netbook is all new. The unit definitely looks more sleek than the original. The touch pad is bagger, and perhaps most importantly, the battery has had an increase in capacity. The battery has jumped up to a 5900mAh rating, over the original 6-cell’s 5200mah, yet the size remains the same which is great. It seems as though they have squeezed a bit more room out of the keyboard as well. It definitely looks a bit nicer than the original, though they are still using very standard laptop key style, while we see many other netbooks jumping over to the chicle style keys.

Acer has no plans to rest with the success of its Aspire One netbook. They’re already working hard on a new model that improves on its predecessor.

The new model will feature a slimmer chassis and come with an SD memory card slot like the one that first appeared on the 8.9? model.

There can be only one reason for the slimmer chassis: an SSD instead of a hard drive. The presence of the Windows key on the keyboard suggests the new Aspire One will run XP, though a Linux version is likely. They even tweaked the motherboard to shed some thickness.

Acer’s Chairman J.T. Wang also stated that Acer is looking to adopt strong policies toward promoting netbooks in 2009, with a target of shipping 12-15 million units.

Supposedly, Acer has ordered up to nine million 10.1-inch panels for this year alone, and they’re expected to outsource 80-90 percent of their netbooks to Compal Electronics.
