The PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii by a ratio of three to one in the latest ChartTrack sales figures. The 999 percent sales increase follows the launch of the new slimmer PS3 SKU in the UK last tuesday.

While ChartTrack wasn’t able to release the actual sales figures, it has confirmed that the console has outsold the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii and the DS Lite by three units to one:

The sales increase is very impressive, making the PS3 the top selling hardware in Week 36. The Xbox 360, Wii and DS Lite all sold around the same amount last week – PS3 Slim outsold each of them by a ratio of three-to-one

The longevity of this uplift very much depends on the time of year. The PS2 Slim was released in November, much closer to Christmas. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out for Sony this time.

Seems like a pretty good week for Sony. The redesigned PS3 was launched in the UK on September 1 for £ 249.99.

A student at Yale University has filed a lawsuit against U.S. Airways demanding $1 million in compensation for his lost Xbox 360 console.

According to the filing, Jesse Maiman took a flight last December from New Haven, Connecticut to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and upon arriving at his destination, proceeded to retrieve his luggage.

It was then that he discovered his bag was lighter than before and began to inventory the contents, finding everything was accounted for except for his Xbox 360, “which had a specialized hard drive and components he said cost more than $1,000.”

Maiman alleges that U.S. Airways gave him “an unconscionable ‘run-around’,” leading him to write or converse with five airline employees who gave him “what he considered to be nonresponsive answers.” He says the airline just didn’t want to deal with such an annoyance.

“That thing was my DVD player,” Maiman, a junior film studies major, said. He is seeking reimbursement of $1,700 for the loss of the Xbox 360 and its components and for “non-economic distress of at least $25,000, but in the maximum amount allowable by law or, in the alternative, in the sum of $1,000,000.”

U.S. Airways says it has not been advised of the lawsuit yet, but such a lawsuit surpasses federal loss limits for lost luggage. “Further, our publicly available baggage policies specifically exclude liability for electronics checked in luggage,” said Valerie Wunder, a US Airways spokesperson.

After doing some math, we can’t see how any combination of components could total up that much. And “specialized hard drive”?!?

Thanks to a new cryptic splash screen posted on the Konami website, the Internet is abuzz with rumors that the blockbuster smash hit game Metal Gear Solid is headed to the Xbox 360 or possibly even the Wii.

The splash screen shows off green symbols and a seemingly cryptic math equation. (A screenshot is posted after the article)

Although it is clear that a new project is in the works, it remains a curiosity as to whether the new project will be headed to a new console or whether MGS 4 will get its much hoped-for Xbox 360 debut. The game is a PlayStation 3 exclusive currently.

Another promising argument is that the game could be headed to the iPod Touch or the Nintendo DSi.

It would be inappropriate at this time to make any guarantees as to what the message means but it is very interesting to say the least. We will keep you updated.

A week ago, Microsoft unveiled their program to make good to all the Xbox 360 gamers who were affected by the Xbox 360 Live glitches since season. Meanwhile, the company is talking more about just what went wrong during the tumultuous period.

“We had the biggest concurrent day we’ve ever had on Live. We had more people than ever signing up on XBL, it was 9 million, then 10 million, and it literally was that a lot more people were trying to get on, sign up and play than we had expected over Christmas.

He explained how it the resulting problems weren’t solely because of too many people to sign at once; rather, it was because they were a tad short staffed.

“It’s easy when we’re all the office in November, but on December 25th, it’s harder to get a hold of everybody,” he acknowledged.

He’s hopeful that the free XBLA title will placate the masses.
