It also has an extremely unique feature with an chameleon-like keyboard. The keys of this specially designed gaming laptop are designed to change depending on what game is played. So if you are doing a Warcraft-type game, you’ll see the direction keys and action hotkeys. You will see a different formation for a flying type of game. It reminds me of the Optimus Maximus keyboard. Here comes the sad part. I don’t know when this Razer Switchblade is planning on being released, or if it is being released. In fact, I don’t even know if this is the item that Razer wanted me to see.

Geeks Gadget: Walmart Selling $200 Xbox 360

The leaks were real. This weekend, Walmart is kicking off pre-Black Friday deals, including a $199 Xbox 360 Arcade that comes with a free $100 gift card, effectively dropping the price to $100. Other deals are just as good:

• $298 HP Notebook Computer – 3GB memory, 160GB hard drive, Windows 7 Premium
• Sharp 1080p HDTVs – 42″ for $498, 46″ for $698 (120 Hz), 52″ for $898 (120 Hz)
• Panasonic 46″ 1080p plasma HDTV for $788

• Xbox 360 Arcade Console $199 with $100 Walmart Gift Card (for use on future purchases;

The sale starts at 8 a.m. Nov. 7 (that’s a Saturday) and lasts, to some extent, through Nov. 13. But it appears these doorbuster deals won’t last beyond the first day.

Also of note, “Walmart will feature select 12-pound turkeys for less than $5, helping families serve a complete Thanksgiving meal for eight this year as low as $20.” Limit two turkeys per customer.

Nokia tells all on Booklet 3G: $299 with a 2-year contract on AT&T

Nokia, AT&T, Best Buy and Microsoft are all holding hands and singing the same song about Nokia’s Booklet 3G today. The good news is that the device will be subsidized by AT&T, at $299 with a 2-year contract at a $60 a month data plan — with other rate plans and prices to be announced — and a $599 non-subsidized price.

It’ll be out with the launch of Windows 7 on October 22nd and available exclusively through Best Buy through the holidays. Nokia’s also pretty strong about stating that 12 hour battery life isn’t a “brochure number” but a real number — though we doubt that since Nokia is using Mobile Mark ’07 which doesn’t include wireless in its base tests.

Nikon D3s live blogging at NikonRumors

“The D3s is expected to be supplied to UK stores in early December, priced around £4200 for the body only.

“Movies are captured in HD quality 1280×720 pixel resolution at 24fps that can be trim edited in-camera, but most significantly, most of the camera’s still shooting functions – including ultra-high ISO settings – are available in the video mode, and single frames can be saved on the fly as JPEGs. Although these frames are of low resolution, they are sufficient for multimedia presentations, says Nikon, and could be used for newspaper print.”

11:42 – Ok folks, the Wi-Fi connection here at the New York Historical society is rubbish, so I’m literally “e-mailing” the guys my live reactions.
Better stuff a-comin’ later in the afternoon.

Today IREX, which is a Philips offshoot, is showing off its latest e-reader, the DR 800SG. It’s got an 8.1-inch screen (the Kindle 2’s is 6 inches), and is optimized to be used with a stylus. There’s a little bar on the left-hand side that you use to turn pages. Oh, and IREX partnered with Barnes and Noble, so all those e-books you buy from there work on the reader.

Apple has won MP3 market, sorry Zune: RBC

Try as it might, Microsoft’s mobile media player Zune still can’t touch Apple’s iPod Touch. And it may not get the opportunity to. Ever.

Microsoft rolled out its latest iteration of its flagship music and media device recently with some decent hardware and software upgrades — including the ability to stream music over the Web to a PC. The Zune can also link to a television. Apple’s Touch can do neither.

The Zune should capture more share will the refresh cycle, analysts say, however, it still faces an uphill battle against Apple’s iconic iPod, which accounts for a commanding 70% of the overall pure mobile-media player market in North America by some estimates.

RBC’s Mike Abramsky says the impact of the Zune is “neutral” to sales of the iPod and therefore he reiterated his Outperform rating on Apple’s stock vis-a-vis MSFT.

Moreover, he said in a Sept. 15 note to clients that the new Zune is launching into a declining standalone MP3 market with users shifting MP3 use to Smart phones.

“iPhone has a huge, perhaps unassailable, lead in Smartphones and an easy upgrade path from iPod [iTunes, account info, content, apps all transition easily] whereas Zune — at this juncture — remains a standalone strategy into a shrinking market.”

HP DreamScreen: the Facebook photo frame

Sure, the HP DreamScreen does all your regular digital photo frame chores, like telling the time, playing music and movies, and occasionally showing your snaps. But it also outclasses all comers with one clever feature: web access for internet radio, and Facebook. Want to poke the peeps in your photos? Now you can, straight from the frame.

Coming in two models, the 10.2-inch 100 and 13.3-inch 130, the HP DreamScreen range cram in 2GB of storage and the skills to stream photos over Wi-Fi, but that net connection gets put to further use with internet radio, Pandora music streaming and a specially crafted Facebook app that lets you graze on photos, status updates and event news.

The iPod touch has 802.11n, so what?

Author and blogger Glenn Fleishman over at TidBITS has some great insights into iFixit’s discovery that the 3rd generation iPod touch has an 802.11n-capable wireless chip. We mentioned this in our initial analysis of iFixit’s teardown, but we still had a few comments asking what it could really do and some who claimed it could do nothing. With the help of Glenn’s article, I’ll put a few of those thoughts to rest and probably fuel more conspiracies with these highlights:

* Until recently, 802.11n-capable devices required two antennas. That has changed with the introduction of Single-Stream 802.11n, thus making it possible for manufacturers to put wireless-n into handheld devices.
* Part of the Single-Stream endeavor was a desire for better battery life. If Apple enables wireless-n in the future, it’s very likely that you’ll see the battery life improve when doing anything on WiFi because these chips should consume less power than wireless-g.
* Wireless-n could allow the iPod touch to send 50 percent more data across the network. That would give it a theoretical throughput of 30Mbps or more instead of its current 20Mbps.
* It’s also possible that Single-Stream wireless-n technology will be more efficient on wireless networks. In order for that to happen, Apple will have to update their wireless routers to contain space-time block coding (STBC), but that could be as simple as a firmware update.

If Apple enabled 802.11n in the iPod touch, we could see a lot of new uses come to the device, including video streaming, wireless sync/home sharing, on-device video rental, and many other possibilities. I have always wanted to be able to start a movie in the living room and continue watching it live while doing other tasks around the house. With this new technology, that dream could someday become reality.
