Recently, Oracle gobbled up Sun Microsystems for $7.4 billion Monday, boldly swooping in to take advantage after IBM dropped its bid to buy one of high-tech’s best-known — and most-troubled — companies.

The startling deal, Oracle’s first hardware acquisition, steps up Oracle’s bid to become a one-stop technology shop for more than 300,000 corporate, government and academic customers. It also effectively ends Sun’s 27-year history as Silicon Valley’s maverick independent.

Currently, i don’t cover Mac or Windows news on the site, even though most people who have an iPhone will at some point plug it into a laptop or desktop. And we almost never cover software that isn’t directly involved with that plug in connection. Why the exception? In a move that will surely send alarm bells ringing in Microsoft headquarters, Hewlett Packard, the world’s leading PC manufacturer, has announced that they are considering replacing Windows with Google’s Android operating system in some of their upcoming netbook models.

This potential change in operating systems is likely driven by the slumping economy and PC manufacturers’ desire to make their machines even more affordable. Microsoft charges steep licensing fees for the use of Windows, while Google allows Android to be used free, so this move could save HP millions of dollars and further reduce the price of netbooks.

The brand new and game changing OnLive service was announced at the Game Developers Conference yesterday. OnLive is a gaming service that plans to provide gamers who have entry level home computers with access to games they would never be able to run on those machines.

This is accomplished through cloud computing; where the heavy, hardware intensive processing needed for high-end gaming is done on central OnLive servers which then essentially stream the gameplay footage to users. Learn more about OnLive after the jump.

General Imaging issued its first model of digital camera (GE G3WP), which has a fully waterproof casing and can be photographed under water (up to 3 meters) without using additional boxes.

In doing so, the model looks stylish without the elements of the “brutality”, is usually characteristic of such cells.

GE G3WP added a directory of available (for the buyer) cameras in 2009, with “on board” 12.2 MP sensor, a lens with a 4x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD display with integrated motion sensor lighting.
