Recently, Oracle gobbled up Sun Microsystems for $7.4 billion Monday, boldly swooping in to take advantage after IBM dropped its bid to buy one of high-tech’s best-known — and most-troubled — companies.

The startling deal, Oracle’s first hardware acquisition, steps up Oracle’s bid to become a one-stop technology shop for more than 300,000 corporate, government and academic customers. It also effectively ends Sun’s 27-year history as Silicon Valley’s maverick independent.

Currently, i don’t cover Mac or Windows news on the site, even though most people who have an iPhone will at some point plug it into a laptop or desktop. And we almost never cover software that isn’t directly involved with that plug in connection. Why the exception? Tweetie for Mac began as Tweetie for iPhone, one of the most popular and robust iPhone Twitter clients in the App Store, and as much as the iPhone version set the foundation for Tweetie for Mac, it looks like Tweetie for Mac rebuilt that foundation for the next iPhone release.

T-Mobile is reportedly readying a new crop of devices based on Google’s Android operating system. According to a New York Times report citing confidential documents, the company is planning a home telephone device and tablet PC device which will utilize versions of Android.

HTC has introduced its new sleek and slim QWERTY smartphone, named as HTC Snap (HTC S522), which features HTC’s innovative Inner Circle to automatically prioritize email from a preselected group of important people.

Geeks Gadget: T-Mobile has USB 3G Modem

T-Mobile launches the webConnect USB 3G modem that allows users to connect to T-Mobile’s mobile network anywhere. The webConnect supports HSDPA 1900 / 2100 / AWS and tri-band GSM/EDGE network. It can also conect to WiFi hotspots.

T-Mobile webConnect has a built-in microSDHC card slot. It is priced at $49.99 with a two-year contract or $249.99 without contract.

The network has long appeared rumors that Dell wants to enter the market of smartphones and communicators. The first smartphone was expected in September this year, but perhaps the event did not happen so soon. From the company Kaufman Bros analyst Shaw Wu has learned that Dell introduced prototypes of smartphones based on Windows Mobile and Android multiple mobile network operators. As a result of the latter were not interested in devices, because they are little different from the smartphones HTC, Nokia, Samsung and other leading manufacturers.

But in this case Dell «do not give up». The company is going to rewrite the existing models and to design new models of smartphones. It is hoped that smartphones from Dell will be quite interesting for users.

The Magic may be on its way, but according to news sources quoting HTC’s CEO Peter Chou, there will be no rest for the Taiwanese company, as they have several further Android handsets expected to be released during the remainder of the year.

Mr Chou was speaking at a technology conference in Taipei and was responding to questions concerning a rumour HTC would be bringing five Android phones on to the market in 2009.
