The blackberry torch comes with plenty of featured applications, including the likes of the Blackberry App World, Twitter, Pandora, Slacker Radio, iheartradio, eBay, Dragon for Email, BeejiveIM, CrunchSMS, Movela Netflix Queu Manager and Flixter. These are just a few of the many apps available and all can be downloaded from Blackberry world.

Apps for smartphones are a great way to keep in tune with the things you love, what’s going on around you and also a great way to stay in touch with friends and family whilst on the go. Social applications are one of the most popular choices and come in the shape of Facebook, Twitter, and Buzzed. All are great ways to keep in touch with others and all will send push notifications direct to your handset in order to notify the user of new messages and posts.

Blackberry Messenger is another great social networking application and allows users to send free chat messages to others who own a Blackberry handset. This in turn allows the user to connect with friends anywhere at anytime.

Chat for Facebook Pro is also another new application that can be installed to the Blackberry handset and one that allows the user to stay in touch with friends and family via an instant chat feature. This is not only free of charge it is also much quicker than sending a lengthy text.

Ping chat is similar to that of Blackberry Messenger and allows you to communicate with friends on other smartphone platforms as well as those only using a Blackberry handset.

Whatsapp is a popular choice for those that wish to send pictures for free to other phones without having to contend with MMS rates. Pictures can be sent to anyone anywhere as long as they have this particular application. This is a great way to let your friends know what you are up to by sending them a simple snapshot.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Apple knows how to sell, and sell big. As we tune into the company’s fiscal 2009 third quarter conference call this afternoon, we’re told that it has just recorded its “best non-holiday quarter [in terms of] revenue and earnings” in company history. This, mind you, was recorded during what most say is the worst recession since the Great Depression. All told, Apple netted a quarterly profit of $1.23 billion, and international sales accounted for a staggering 44 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

The outfit continued to steamroll the competition in MP3 sales, moving 10.2 million iPod units in the quarter; of note, that was a seven percent decrease from last year, but given that fact that we’re getting ever-closer to a saturation point with these things, we aren’t too shocked to hear it.

More Info here

There were shades of greatness in Navigon’s crippled free MobileNavigator trial, and high expectations for the full version. Now it’s here, and for the first couple weeks, priced at a reasonable (no, really) $70.

Even at the eventual full price of $100 it’s still a solid deal, since most big-name navigation apps charge a monthly fee, which seems to be settling across the App Store at about $10. That’s a lot of upkeep, which would surpass Navigon’s one-off charge well within a year, and keep going, well, forever. But $70 is still a lot, so before you take the plunge, here’s what you get: This is great news to all Geek Gadgets lover.

Just in time to make America’s birthday even more special, it looks like N97 series owners will be enjoying a shiny new gift from our friends at Nokia this July 4th weekend. Just as the firmware version was recently updated on Nokia’s RDS service, so too will the firmware be updated on the N97. According to Nokia Conversations’ Twitter account, “N97 SW 1.1 (11.x.021)” will find itself in the hands of the people this Wednesday, July 1st.

Rejoice! Sure, a firmware update isn’t going to resolve all of the issues we had with the handset — such as an off-center space button on the keypad (how?!) — but it will hopefully go great lengths to eliminate many of the bugs users are currently experiencing. As for exactly which regions/product codes will have access to the new firmware right out of the gate, unfortunately there’s no way of telling until the 1st rolls around.

Is it really true that the Next iPhone Code Named ‘iPhone 3GS’? well, John Gruber of Daring Fireball, certainly no stranger on this site to iPhone news, rumors and speculation, is positive tomorrow’s event will feature an “iPhone 3GS”. What does S stand for? Don’t ask. He doesn’t have a clue. What he does think he has a clue about is pretty much everything else that will pop out of Apple execs’ mouths at WWDC this week.

The iPhone 3GS:

I expect Apple to announce updated iPhones with significantly faster processors, twice the RAM, and twice the storage. I expected prices to remain the same as the current lineup: $199/299 for 16/32 GB, respectively. The video camera is going to be a major selling point.

Lower-priced iPhones:

I believe this is true, and the new price will be $99. But since I expect the new top-of-the-line iPhone 3GS to start at $199, that means the $99 iPhone must be something else. I see two possibilities: (a) a new device, something that is to the iPhone what the iPod Mini was to the original iPod; or (b) the existing 8 GB iPhone 3G, unchanged but reduced in price.

And an iPhone nano might round out the three tiered line some day, but not tomorrow.

“Marble”:

While I am convinced that “Marble” is a real design project at Apple, I no longer believe it is slated for Snow Leopard. A new visual appearance isn’t something Apple can spring on third-party developers at the last moment. If they plan to ship Snow Leopard soon – say, by the end of August – that just isn’t enough time to allow developers to update their software to look good under a new UI theme.
